Even if you freaking love sex, sometimes getting in the mood can be a bit of a challenge, especially when the daily grind is zapping your mental and emotional energy reserves. I know for me, (Bev Munga) at the end of the day, sometimes it takes all I’ve got just to watch my favourite movie or read a book, let alone actually feel ready to roll around between the sheets. My advice? Consider tapping into the wide world of essential oils in the bedroom to boost your sex drive and enhance those relaxing, feel-good vibes. Whether you’re due for a solo session, or you and your partner simply want to set the stage for an extra special night, these oils can definitely add to (and potentially even induce) your arousal, while benefitting your shut-eye at the same damn time.
As for a little background on how all this might actually work, an essential oil is a mixture of the chemicals, or “essential” compounds, of a plant with a carrier oil, extracted by a process of distillation. Each type of oil is believed to have unique benefits, depending on what plant it was extracted from. Essential oils are often used for things like aromatherapy through massage, or even by just dabbing the product onto the skin. They can also be used in baths, or you can diffuse them throughout your room, or even your entire home. The fragrances of the oils stimulate the olfactory system, which is the part of the brain connected to your sense of smell.
And while essential oils seem to be having a moment right now, they are by no means a new thing. Apparently there’s record of Egyptians using aromatic oils for their healing properties as early as 4500 B.C. — and that includes being used for sexy bedroom adventures, too. Seems like they were onto something, no? Try one of these six essential oils for yourself to see what it’s all about.
Dilute essential oils in a carrier oil- Carrier Oils are basically vegetable oils and used to dilute the essential oils and help carry them into the skin.
Aloe Vera gels, massage oils, body lotions or even coconut oil and Avocado oil can be used to diffuse the essential oils which should not be used directly to the skin.
To dilute, use 3 to 5 drops of essential oil in one ounce of carrier oil or to your shower gel or body mist.
Set the mood, by adding a few drops on your candals. Essential oils got you covered when it comes to romance and intimacy.

Jasmine oil is an essential oil derived from the white flowers of the common jasmine plant, also known as Jasminun officinale. For centuries, jasmine has been popular for its sweet, romantic fragrance and has been used in some of the world’s best-known perfumes, including Chanel No 5.
It’s also a common ingredient in alcohol, sweets, and desserts.
Jasmine oil and components of synthetic blends of jasmine essential oil have properties that offer a number of health benefits. Though it’s a popular home remedy used to treat everything from depression to infections, it’s best known as an aphrodisiac.
Jasmine’s romantic scent has long been believed to have an aphrodisiac effect. It’s been worn as a fragrance, and in parts of India, jasmine flowers are often included as décor at weddings in the newlyweds’ bedroom to set the mood for romance.
There is little scientific evidence to back its effects as an aphrodisiac. We do know that inhaling jasmine or using it in aromatherapy massage improves mood and has been reported to increase romantic and positive feelings, as well as energy levels.
These things could, in theory, prime someone for romance and sex. Also, its stimulant effect on brain waves may make a person more alert to sexual cues, possibly increasing blood flow to the penis, according to a small study that looked at the association between odors and sexual response.
If you’re hoping to spice things up in the bedroom with jasmine oil, try dabbing some of the oil on your neck. Your body heat will enhance the scent. You can also add a few drops on bedding, to a warm bath, or to a diffuser in the bedroom.
- Sage
Sage is a great scent that’s been associated with quite a wide variety of health benefits, including decreases in PMS symptoms and, apparently, increases in sexual confidence. Sounds like the perfect combination to me, no?
When used in aromatherapy, sage oil can help alleviate stress by inducing a sense of well-being. One small study done on women undergoing a stressful medical test indicated that when inhaled, clary sage essential oil elicited feelings of relaxation and helped to reduce blood pressure.
Another Study carried with menopausal women indicated that inhaled sage oil reduced cortisol, the stress hormone, and produced an antidepressant-like effect.
One component of clary sage oil is sclareol, which mimics the effects of estrogen in the body. For this reason, clary sage may be effective at reducing some of the symptoms of menopause. Some research suggests that diluted sage oil applied to the bottoms of the feet can reduce hot flashes
Sage as an essential oil has been proven to help with cramps. Another study examined 48 women who experienced painful menstruation and cramps. Some of the women were given a cream containing sage oil and other essential oils to apply onto their lower abdomens daily, between menstrual cycles. The women who used the cream had a significant reduction in menstrual cramps than the control Group.
